Why isn't your salon helping you get a healthy tan...not a burn!

Repost from Jan 20, 2014 by Copper Bottoms Tan

Comparing Salons?
If your salon isn't asking you to reduce your tanning time under new bulbs, speak up and ask "why".

Yes our software will produce a "bulb hour" report and Yes you are welcome to view it. Part of our staff actually developed the software that runs some of the top salons in the nation. This software includes a built in warning for the first 100-200 hours of the life of new bulb. This warning is an industry STANDARD to keep you from accidental burning.

Manufacturers estimate the life of their tanning lamps at 800 or 1000 hours, but it is important to realize that the strength of the bulbs depends on how new they are.

When bulbs are brand new, they are at their peak strength. After that, the bulb strength drops sharply, stays at this point for 400-500 hours of use, and then starts to lose intensity until it has no tanning power at all.

Be sure you tan at a place that can tell you when the bulbs were changed last, so you know for sure what you're getting. They should also know exactly when they will change the bulbs again, based on the volume of people they tan, and the number of hours on their bulbs.

Knowing how new the bulbs are will help you determine how long you should tan, too. If the bulbs are newer than those you are used to, you should decrease your tanning time to prevent overexposure.

We believe an educated customer is the best customer. So next time we ask you to review your tanning time in a bed we just changed the bulbs on, just think of it as a way to show you we care.

How Long Will My Norvell Tan Last?

How Long will My New Spray Tan Last?
By Copper Bottoms on 1/29/14
One question that we get asked by every first time spray tanning client at Copper Bottoms is “how long does a spray tan last?” “Well…it depends” is normally a cop-out answer but give us a chance to explain.

What the Tanning Experts Say.
The experts will say anywhere from 7-12 days, but it’s like anything else in life. What you put into your tan it will affect how long it will last.

Some things that you can do to make sure that your spray tan lasts for a longer period of time and still looks good while it lasts are:
- Wait the right amount of time to shower. We can’t stress this enough. If you are in a rush, we have a new solution that allows you to shower after an hour. Ask the staff to try our new Norvell One Solution. Also with water or activities that will make you sweat for that initial waiting period as well.
- Use a daily moisturizer designed to work with a spray tan. Although Crisco maybe a trusted southern woman tradition, it’s not the best product to work with your new spray tan. (stop laughing, people do use this) Check out the store shelves for suggestions, or ask the staff.
- Package your spray tan with an UV tan. Try a stand up bed option for 5 mins after your spray tan. There is nothing better than a few minutes in a warm tanning bed on a cold day. Why not.
- Shaving frequently also acts as an exfoliating technique so the more you shave the shorter the life of your spray tan.

- Try an industry Maintenance Kit to help prolong the life of your tan. We have ordered Norvell Specific kits that are designed especially for spray tans. Ask the girls about this product.

Well that didn’t answer my question.
Like we said, we know “it depends” isn’t the perfect answer, but it really does. If you were to get a manicure tomorrow and dig up the garden tomorrow without gloves on, your nails probably wouldn’t last very long. Most of what you can do to prolong your tan is common sense. Copper Bottoms knows that this spray tan is an investment in making yourself look better and we want you to be happy. If you EVER have a question, anywhere along the process, please feel free to ask.

DID WE MENTION YOU CAN BRING A FRIEND FOR FREE?

Did that help?
Still have questions? Did you experience a GREAT Spray tan? How did you make it last? Let us know.
